Christine Causing and her boyfriend Sheldon Wagner didn't have enough space for all of their things when Causing moved in with Wagner. They decided to hold a garage sale to try to make some cash, Breitling watch and planned to donate whatever was left to charity.
"We just wanted to make a little money," Causing says.
But the first-time garage saler got less than she bargained for during her first transaction. The buyer, an experienced barterer, bought a dining table for $20 less than a flustered Causing had wanted, she says.
"It was not good. I was getting confused," she says. "I thought it was so hard."
Garage sales draw a unique crowd of treasure hunters, she says. An elderly couple looking for drinking glasses not only showed up to the sale a day early, but also made a strange bid after talking with Causing.
"She said, 'We don't have much company and you're so lovely. I wish you were my neighbour. I wish I could buy you,' " Causing says.
Michael Rivette has combed the Edmonton garage sale scene for as long as he can remember. Rivette gives his garage sale finds to his mother, who then sells the hand-picked gems at her own sale.
Some of his favourite finds include a collection of pop bottles from the 1970s he bought for$50 that are worth about $200, he says.
Rivette suggests looking for certain logos on plates and doing some research the night before a sale to help spot valuable antiques.
"People selling don't always realize what something is worth," he says. "You wheel and deal and don't let go until you're finished. With a sale you never let go too quick."Breitling watch
But there are unwritten rules when it comes to bartering that not everyone follows, says Sulit. In most situations, buyers shouldn't pitch offers less than half the selling price.
"Yu have to be reasonable. If something is two, three dollars, you don't haggle because that's just embarrassing," Sulit says.
Starting early is also a good way to ensure shoppers leave a sale with an excellent stash, Rivette says. "The best time to go is right at 6 or 7a.m. when they are setting up."Breitling watch

Well, what do you think? Barring a frankly bonkers finale, The Taking of Pelham 123 is not about twists or challenging expectations. On the contrary, it’s about meeting them head on. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Everything about it is slick, reassuring and always entertaining, right down to the minor parts. James -Gandolfini, nervously glancing at his Jaeger-LeCoultre watch as the philandering mayor; John Turturro nervously glancing everywhere as the hostage negotiator who does little negotiation. They seem to say, don’t worry, you know these guys.Breitling watch
And we do. Comparisons will no doubt be made with the 1974 -original, but we shouldn’t be misty eyed. That version – with the likeable, dependable Walter Matthau in the role occupied here by the likeable, dependable Washington – was just as by-the-numbers, just as predictable and just as pleasantly distracting. In a summer of dross, we don’t need amazing films right now, we need -dependable ones. This will do just fine.
